I report on the experience of module staff and students in running a hybrid form of assessment. The novel aspects of the assessment were to be found in the terms of which the assessment was conducted: the automatic assessment was to be completed to a 100% standard in order to earn a pass, while the written assessment was run for students to earn a grade above a passing mark. I will discuss the underlying educational motivation, the achievement outcomes and the student experience.
